Landscape Beautification Awards Landscape Beautification Awards

WHAT ARE THE LANDSCAPE BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS?

A Landscape Beautification Award honors those who create and maintain beautiful landscapes in the City of Coral Gables. Each year, through the Awards program, the Landscape Beautification Advisory Board honors landscapes that are beautiful and best represent the character of the City. The Board and the City Commission hope that through sharing the results of the beautification efforts, others are inspired to enhance the quality of life along the streetscapes in every neighborhood and district of the City.

Submissions of applications for Beautification Awards can be made by anyone by filling out the nomination form available by clicking here or through contact with the Public Service Department by calling 305-460-5131. All residential and commercial properties in the City are eligible for this award. The Board encourages applications from anyone interested in advancing beautification efforts in Coral Gables. The deadline for application each year is December 31st. Awardees are honored each year by the City Commission during a public ceremony and the winning properties will be showcased here on this website.

LANDSCAPE BEAUTIFICATION AWARD
RECIPIENTS FOR
2006

113 SAN SEBASTIAN AVENUE

Mr. and Mrs. Orestes Navarro have lived in Coral Gables for 17 years and Mr. Navarro’s love and passion for plants permeates their garden. When asked how he created his garden, Mr. Navaro said that “it evolved as I learned more about trees and plants.” His landscape creation includes a variety of exotic palm trees mixed with White Geiger and Vera Wood.

Mr. Navarro perfected his landscaping skills during 16 years as owner of his own landscape installation business and he now adds to the beauty of the entire City as an employee of the City’s Public Service Department. He is also a certified arborist and considers himself a “tree doctor.”

4107 SANTA MARIA STREET

Mr. and Mrs. Manuel A. Penalver have lived in Coral Gables for 17 years. The formal style of their house dictated the style of landscaping that they wanted to achieve. The owners, knowing exactly what they wanted, hired landscape designer Frank Bilbao to create a wonderful European manicured look. Bilbao made all decisions on plant material for the project, selecting very low maintenance plants and providing for an irrigation system. Mr. and Mrs. Penalver believe that this landscape has influenced others by the mere fact that many Gables residents have approached them with complements about the beautiful design.

800 JERONIMO DRIVE

Mr. and Mrs. Anibal J. Duarte - Viera have resided in Coral Gables for more than 25 years. They also hired landscaped designer Frank Bilbao to achieve the formal and elegant look of this home’s landscaping. They have included several species of tropical palms with formal low foliage all around. Native plants, shade trees and irrigation where included during design planning.

10300 SABAL PALM AVENUE

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Needle own this beautiful residence, the landscape of which features the informality of selected native vegetation with more formally maintained exotic plant materials. Native Saw Palmetto, Sea Grape and Live Oak are pleasantly combined with exotic Podocarpus, Ficus pumila and topiary grown from a species of Eugenia.
